We act with integrity
Good mental health support relies on rigorous ethical systems - especially when it is online or, in our case, AI-enabled. At Spicy Minds, we take our responsibility to you seriously and are working hard on embedding ethical practices into all our apps.
This is continually evolving as the mental health sector works through the implications of using AI to help people in safe ways, and we aim to be at the vanguard of this. Building trust with our community is central to our work.
Your wellbeing is fundamental
Supporting people to feel better is at the heart of what we do. So that we can do this as safely as possible, we are developing our apps with care and rigour.
As part of our ethical commitments, we are constantly testing our apps to see how they respond in different situations. This means we are putting them through a continual assessment process by simulating conversations and evaluating each one.
Our apps are carefully managed. They operate with human oversight so that safeguarding is overseen properly and responsibly.
We have trained our AI to be skilful. It can handle complex, sensitive conversations so that harm and distress is minimised.
Traceability systems are in place, meaning the replies made by our AI can be explained to people that use it.
We are working towards creating an experience that is as inclusive and unbiased as possible so that you feel heard, respected and understood.
Taking our ethical commitments further
We have created an automated supervisor, powered by AI and overseen by qualified human professionals, to review how our apps interact with you and flag any ethical concerns. It is built on three guiding principles: your safety, our accountability and the quality of therapeutic support.
It reviews the apps to make sure that ethical guidelines are consistently followed. It also provides us with constructive feedback which we use to develop our apps so that they comply with national guidelines for collecting and processing personal information, including GDPR.
